Using Toys To Encourage Exercise Among Children

Jul 09, 2013    //

Kids would usually rather play than exercise. Fortunately, play can be a form of exercise too, especially with the right toys. Instead of giving your little boy the latest action figure or your little girl a teddy bear, give your child a bicycle. Cycling is a good exercise because it helps strengthen the leg muscles, aiding in the growth and development of your little tot. Plus, the time that you will spend teaching him or her how to ride a bike is a great parent-child bonding activity.

Roller skates are also another gift that can encourage kids to spend more time outdoors and engage in physical activity. Just make sure to provide all the necessary safety gear such as helmets, knee pads, and elbow pads. If you want your kids to get more sun, install a playground set in your backyard. If you have limited space, a trampoline will do. Jumping is not only a good exercise, but it is tons of fun as well!

If you do not have much space outdoors, a child's jumping rope is a versatile toy since it can be used indoors. There are even video games now that require players to move in order to control the game. One popular example would be dance video games that let players follow dance steps on a dance pad. These video games can become quite addictive, even for adults. By making wise choices in buying toys for your kids, you can help them develop a love for an active lifestyle.
